Over two centuries ago today, the Continental Congress, with “a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence,” approved the final wording of the Declaration of Independence and henceforth forever altered the course of history. In that profound and immortal text, our Founding Fathers affirmed the self-evident truths that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
As Americans all across the Nation gather to celebrate Independence Day, we must never forget those who sacrificed their lives to preserve the freedoms that, in the words of President Ronald Reagan, have made America “a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere.”
And in these troubled times, we must not disregard those who strive everyday to undermine our Nation’s heritage of faith and freedom, those who seek to destroy America from within. Led by President Obama and flanked by stealth jihadists and secular progressives, our Nation’s enemies will stop at nothing to ensure that our “shining city” is turned to rubble and her beacon of freedom extinguished.
But rest assured, the American Freedom Law Center is tirelessly defending our faith and freedoms in courtrooms all across the Nation. And we have hope because in our Nation’s history, the power of faith and freedom has always defeated darkness and oppression.
Please say a prayer today for the men and women of our armed forces overseas, that they may be encouraged by our celebration of the freedoms that they uphold through unyielding sacrifice.
